The Freep is reporting that the Spartans will be showing off new uniforms this fall. A lot of the new look is a throwback to the uniforms worn in the 60s:
The type used to spell “Michigan State” across the chest will return to the basic block style that teams used from the 1960s through the early 1990s. Last names have returned to the backs of the jerseys, reversing former coach John L. Smith’s decision to have no names.
The helmets have the addition of a single white stripe down the center and jersey numbers added to the back.
The biggest change will be noticed by the players. The Nike-manufactured uniforms feature a “Cordura” stretch material that has been advertised as lighter and more difficult to grab.
