I would like to tell you all about a great volunteer opportunity that has just been finalized. To coincide with homecoming this year, your SF Bay Area alumni group has spearheaded a unique event never done before in MSU alumni history.
On Sunday, October 14 MSU alumni from all over the western half of the United States (from New Mexico to Hawaii) have all agreed to participate in wide scale charity event called Spartan Spirit Day. This event is a play on this years homecoming theme, “Where Heroes are Made”. The idea is that several hundred Spartans will all pitch in on the same in their respective hometowns in an effort to help make where we live a little better place. In the SF Bay Area we will be sponsoring an event with the philanthropic group, The Surfriders. This group helps to clean and preserve SF Bay Area beaches and ocean waterways. Our event will be on the ocean side at stairs/entrance #17 in front of the Beach Chalet restaurant at 1000 Great Highway in San Francisco. Just look for the MSU and Surfriders flags by the beach!
The clean up will begin at 10 am and last a few hours. I have guaranteed at least 20 people, so please let’s all pitch in to help keep our beaches and waterways clean. In addition, the MSU Alumni Magazine and State News have also agreed to run stories about this event which will really help boost awareness of our club.
So after MSU football on Saturday, I can think of no better way to show all of the alumni from all over that the SF Bay Area is truly “Where Heroes are Made”. To join in on this great event, please RSVP as soon as possible to prez@sfbayspartans.org
Thank you and I look forward to seeing you all there!
