At Big Ten media day in October, reporters picked a Spartan as the conference’s preseason player of the year.
After the season, the poll might show they picked the right school but the wrong player.
Forward Raymar Morgan continued to build on his stellar sophomore season, scoring a career-high 31 points to lead No. 6 Michigan State to a 65-59 victory over Minnesota on Saturday night at the Breslin Center in the Big Ten opener for both teams.
Morgan added 10 rebounds, giving him his third double-double of the season. His previous high was 25 points against Chicago State on Nov. 13. Morgan has scored at least 10 points in every game this season.
“I told Greg Kelser last year that I thought Raymar Morgan had a chance to be one of the best forwards that ever played here,” said coach Tom Izzo. “We’ve been demanding of Ray — we’re expecting a lot of Ray. He reminds me of Morris (Peterson) a lot.”
