Golf, “Pick-up” Sunday

This is going to be an ongoing event where we will reserve several foursomes at one golf course in the Bay Area once every few weeks. Anyone of all skill levels are invited to come out and enjoy the morning golfing and meeting fellow MSU Alums. The course will be set up in advance, and it is first come first serve for the spots. However, if the turnout is good, then we can always reserve more foursomes in the future. The courses will be chosen mostly on value and difficulty. So we will not be spending a ton of money on golf, however, we will also not play any $30 “muni-courses” either. Also, I do not know where all of the courses are in the Bay Area, so if you have any suggestions, I am definitely open to places to go.

Please email Scott Chinoski by February 18th to reserve a spot 1st Outing: Crystal Springs Golf Course- Tee times in the morning and TBD based on interest and number of players. Weather and conditions permitting.

MSU To Retire Mateen Cleaves’ Jersey

The Michigan State men’s basketball program will retire the jersey (No. 12) of former All-American Mateen Cleaves this Saturday, Feb. 3 as the Spartans take on No. 4/4 Ohio State in the Breslin Center at 4 p.m. Cleaves, who helped lead Michigan State to the 2000 National Championship, is the all-time assists leader in both Michigan State and Big Ten history with 816. MSU’s only three-time All-American, Cleaves also was a two-time Big Ten Player of the Year and earned MVP honors at the 2000 Final Four and 1999 Big Ten Tournament. Further details regarding the jersey retirement ceremony will be released later this week, with activities planned for both pre-game and halftime.

Watch Party, Palo Alto

Due to the start time of tomorrow’s game Jan. 14th vs. Illinois, the watch party event at Double D’s in Los Gatos has been moved in the Old Pro in Downtown Palo Alto on Ramona St. The reason is that Double D’s does not open until 11am and the game starts at 10:30 am. The Old Pro opens at 10 am and they serve breakfast, and other items as well. So if you were planning on coming to Los Gatos, I ask that you please try to make the trek to Palo Alto instead. It is only about 15 miles north of Los Gatos and should be a good event. I called ahead and they said that they will have the game on TV. So come on out and I hope to see people there tomorrow!

Red Wings Game at HP Pavilion

Hey everyone. So far we have about 25-30 people paid to come to the hockey game in January. Just a reminder for anyone that is still waiting to get tickets, we would like to try and get everyone signed up by this Friday Dec.15th. We are shooting for at least 50 people from MSU to come, so we are almost half way there. I know it is Christmas and all, but if you were interested in coming it is going to be a really fun time and it makes a great stocking stuffer :) So we do have several people signed up, so please do not feel like you will be the only one who would be going. For $33 a piece it is going to be a really fun night! Again, if you purchase your tickets, please send your email to Jeanne from U of M who is collecting the money. Also, please copy me on that email just so we can keep an accurate head count on who is coming. Thank you again to everyone who has helped out with this, and I wish everyone a safe and happy holiday season.

Also starting in January, we will no longer be using the Yahoo Group page anymore unless it is some kind of emergency. we will be posting all of our events, news, information, etc. here on our web site… that is what it is for.

Lots of new events will be coming your way in 2007! We will be having many more events, watch parties, Poker Nights, Networking Functions, Scholorship fundraisers, Euchere Tournaments, Golf Outings, and many more Events than in the past. We hope to plan events and outings that appeal to everyone here in the Bay Area and if there are any suggestions, we are always willing to listen and plan around people’s interests. Again, please look for these events and encourage everyone to come to them because without involvement… there is no Bay Area Alumni Group!
