Global Day of Service Recap

Thank you to the 40 Spartans who came out bright and early to our Service Day event. We cleaned up Mountain Lake in the Presidio, planted some strawberry plants, and made the world just a little bit greener that day. A special thank you to Chad Lesausky for putting together yet another awesome video of a great Spartan event.

Help enhance rare native plant habitat and maintain important wildlife corridors in the Presidio of San Francisco. The Presidio is home to 20 rare plant species, including five protected by the Endangered Species Act. Participate in habitat restoration by removing invasive species and re-vegetating with native plants to help conserve this landscape. Come learn about local plants and animals and be a habitat hero!

Afterwards, you are all welcome to join us for lunch and drinks at a restaurant nearby. Location is TBD.

We will be enhancing the butterfly habitat on Strawberry Hill (the tallest point in Golden Gate Park). We will be removing invasive weed, and putting in the native plant species that Swallowtails and other butterflies need to thrive!

In addition to enhancing the habitat we will learn about the butterflies that occupy San Francisco from Liam O’Brien, who is a renowned butterfly expert throughout the San Francisco Bay Area. All ages are welcome. If you would like to attend, please register on Michigan State’s website and RSVP to the Facebook event.

Special instructions: We will meet at Stow Lake Boathouse and walk over a bridge to Strawberry Hill. There is parking by the boathouse, but come early because it does fill up quickly. There is also always parking all throughout Golden Gate Park. Or be Green and take the Muni or walk. Please arrive 10 minutes early.

We would love to see each and every one of you at this exciting event!
