Watch Party, MSU vs LIU Brooklyn

Big Ten Tournament Champions! And, the fifth No. 1 seed in MSU school history! We Spartans have much to be thankful for and an exciting tournament starting this week!

In San Francisco, we’ll be gathering at Pete’s Tavern. They have agreed to put our game on the giant screen, provided that we have enough people there to watch it. So get there early and let’s fill the place with a GREEN mob! We decided on Pete’s hoping that folks might come from outside the City, as it is very close to CalTrain and not that far from the BART station if you want to use mass transit.

If you can’t make it to the City, there are other places the Spartans faithful are sure to be gathered, and those venues are listed here on our website.

GO GREEN!

Watch Party, MSU vs UCLA

It’s March Madness time! First of all, congratulations to the MSU Women’s Basketball Team on their Big Ten Championship and a #4 seed in the NCAA Tournament! The Spartans, who appear in the tournament for the third straight season and for the eighth time in the last nine seasons, will face No. 13 seed Northern Iowa on Sunday, March 20 at 4:30 p.m. PT in Wichita, Kansas.

Secondly, the Men’s Basketball team has secured a #10 seed in the NCAA Tournament, playing UCLA Thursday, March 17 at 6:20 p.m. PT. Since everybody will be decked out in green already for St. Patrick’s Day, seems like a perfect opportunity to get together and cheer the Spartans to victory! This is MSU’s 14th straight appearance in the NCAA Tournament, marking the third longest active streak in the nation. Go Green!

The bar is sure to be crowded with other teams watching games, since it’s the first day of the tournament. The Republic is open for the Madness starting at noon so get out there early and enjoy the hoops! If you can’t make it out to the Marina, post a comment on the Facebook event page or here on the website to let other Spartans know where you are gathering.

Watch Party, MSU vs Butler

What an amazing year this has turned out to be. I am not sure about all of you, but I feel as if I have aged at least 10 years watching all of the madness unfold in this tournament.

Bloodied, bruised, and injured our Spartans continue their march towards a 3rd NCAA Championship this weekend as they take on the “home team” in the Butler Bulldogs.

Your Bay Area Alumni Association will be holding a watch party this Saturday for the game at Pete’s Tavern in San Francisco. The game starts at 3:07pm PST, but if you want to get a good seat, please try to arrive at least 20-30 minutes early.

We are also asking that you please RSVP to the event if you plan on attending. This way, we can give Pete’s an accurate head count and they may be able to work with us on some additional specials. You can RSVP here on the site, on our Facebook page, or by emailing our Events Chairperson, Katrina Hammer.

We hope that you can make it to Pete’s this Saturday. I would also encourage Spartans from all over the Bay Area to try and make to Pete’s this Saturday. I know the East Bay, Peninsula, and San Jose can be a hike, but this is the Final Four and I think it would be great if we could at least 200 Spartans under one roof for this game. So please come out to SF, make a day of it, and watch MSU kick some Butler butt as they march on to Monday night!

Also, if there is a Monday night game, we will also be holding an event at Pete’s as well, and we will send the time out as soon as know the official game time.

Thank you and I look forward to seeing you all at Pete’s on Saturday!

Spartans Return to the Final Four!

[Freep.com] Don’t bet against Tom Izzo and Michigan State this time of year. Raymar Morgan’s free throw with less than two seconds left gave the Spartans a 70-69 victory over Tennessee in the Midwest Regional final today, sending Michigan State to its sixth Final Four in 12 years and second in a row.

No team in the country — not North Carolina, not Kentucky, not UCLA — has done it better during that span. And all six trips have come under Izzo, the hard-nosed coach who preaches defense, rebounding and physical play.

Oh, and how’s this for some symmetry? This happens to be the 10th anniversary of the “Flintstones,” the team that gave Michigan State its second national title.

The Spartans, last year’s national runner-up, will be looking for title No. 3 next weekend in Indianapolis. They play Butler, sure to be the hometown favorite, in the semifinals Saturday night… [more]

Watch Party, MSU vs UTK

Happy Saturday Bay Area Spartans!

What a special season this has turned into. We have been treated to quite a NCAA tournament and it just keeps getting better.

Your Bay Area MSU Alumni Club will be back at it again this Sunday morning as MSU takes on the Volunteers of Tennessee. MSU is looking to go back to Final Four since, well, last year! Sunday’s game will be at 11:20 a.m. and we will be hosting the event at Pete’s Tavern in San Francisco. We will have much more space at this location with the time of the game and the fact that we are the only team playing… So there will be ample seating for everyone. We are asking that you do arrive a little early if you want to secure a table for your group. We will be having some giveaways, and fun games for anyone who would like to attend.

In addition, since we hosting the event in San Francisco and we did not want exclude any of our friends in the Peninsula and San Jose. We will be hosting our own pre-game tailgate aboard CalTrain Sunday morning. We will be taking over train #425 as it rolls from SJ straight to SF (I will be boarding at the Sunnyvale stop at 9:14 a.m.). We will be taking over the 3rd car from the front where we can tailgate, drink some beverages, and get pumped up as we head to Pete’s which is only 2 blocks away from the train station in SF. If you are interested in taking the train and have any questions, please feel free to email me at prez@sfbayspartans.org I will answer questions all day Saturday and Sunday morning. I think the train will be a blast, looking forward to quite the morning!

So please join us this Sunday as MSU continues their march towards Indianapolis and history!

Hope to see you there!

Watch Party, MSU vs UNI

Happy March Bay Area Spartans!

What an incredible finish! Now that MSU is back in the Sweet 16, your MSU Alumni Club will be hosting another Spartan Watch Party this Friday night as MSU takes on their opponent; the giant killers of Northern Iowa. UNI is fresh off their emotional win over #1 seed Kansas and are looking to advance against our Lucas-less Spartans.

We will hosting the game at Pete’s Tavern in San Francisco for a happy hour showdown that begins at 6:00 p.m. Friday night. The tip off is 6:27 p.m. PT, but we are encouraging everyone to come a little early to help procure spots at Pete’s as it will be crowded.

Also, if you do plan on attending, please make sure you post something to our website for this event or on the group Facebook page. This way we may be able to reserve tables for the group if we can guarantee a head count.

If you can’t make it to the City, you can be sure that there will also be Spartans at one of the other usual Bay Area locations.

Hope to see you at the game on Friday night as MSU rolls on to the Elite 8!

Watch Party, MSU vs Maryland

Happy Weekend Bay Area Spartans!

Wow, what a finish ! Now that MSU has survived their opening round game, they have advanced to the round of 32 to take on Maryland Terpins this Sunday at 11:30 a.m. PT.

We will be having another watch party at Pete’s Tavern in San Francisco located on King St. along the Embarcadero. However, we are asking that if you would like to watch, please plan of getting there early, say 10:45 a.m. Pete’s will be busy and with Ohio State and Gonzaga playing around the same time, we need to be there early in order to secure a table. Also, if you do plan on coming please either post something to our website under this event at www.sfbayspartans.org or on our group Facebook SF Bay Spartans page. This way, if we get enough responses, we can call in advance tonight to secure some table space.

We would really like to try and get as many people as possible, so since tomorrow is going to be a great day, I encourage all of you to come and make a day of it. Come watch the Spartans in the morning, and then spend the day in the city!

Hope to see you there… GO GREEN!

Alums Will Be Bleeding Final Four

From our friends at the The San Francisco Examiner:

March may be gone, but the madness of the NCAA basketball tournament continues, and the local alumni from the four schools still in the championship hunt will stream into San Francisco bars this weekend to watch the action.

Eager fans of North Carolina, Villanova, Michigan State and UConn all have plans to congregate together in San Francisco to root for their teams, despite being thousands of miles from their home campuses.

Watch Party, Championship Game

Awesome turnout on Saturday, Alumni! Thanks for coming out to cheer with us!

“Long I pondered my coach’s cryptic talk of victory, but time has proven him wise, for from student to graduate, the word was spread that bold Izzo and his hardened cagers, so close to home, played the game of their lives… not just for Spartans, but for all of Michigan and the promise this state holds. Now here on this ragged patch of earth called Ford Field, let UNC’s hordes face obliteration! Just there the barbarian Tarheels huddle, sheer terror gripping tight their hearts with icy fingers… knowing full well what merciless horrors the Big East suffered at the Dunks and Defense of 15 Spartans, yet they stare now across the stadium at 70,000 Spartans representing 10,000,000 pride-filled Michiganders. HA-OOH! This day we rescue a state from depression and hardship and usher in a future brighter than anything we can imagine. Give thanks, alumni, to Tom Izzo and the brave Spartan Team! To victory!”

Way to go Spartans! Championship Game!

We play the UNC Tarheels this Monday, April 6th, for the title. This is the final and most important game of the season, so join the other Bay Area Alumni to support them from afar!

Tip of is at 6:20 P.M. PT, and there are a few locations you can meet us at for your convenience: Pete’s Tavern in San Francisco, Stadium Pub in downtown Walnut Creek and Double D’s in Los Gatos for the South Bay folks. Be sure to arrive early to ensure yourself a seat!
