July 28: 5th Annual Spartan Family Picnic

Register for the picnic:

Calling all present, future and lifetime Spartans in the Bay Area – we are hosting another fabulous #SpartyPicnic on Saturday, July 28, beginning at 1:00 p.m. in sunny San Ramon at the home of Linda and Karl Lovett. Come enjoy delicious food, family fun and Spartan camaraderie.

Newly admitted students that are heading to East Lansing in August will be in attendance with their families, so let’s send our Bay Area students off to the banks of the Red Cedar in style.

This is a great family-friendly event. We’ll have plenty of grilled hot dogs and sausages for everybody, with side dishes, chips, and even a Spartan-themed cake for dessert! Pop and water will be provided. You may bring your own adult beverages if you are of age. However, since this is a family-friendly event, no hard alcohol please.

A big thank you to Linda and Karl Lovett who have generously offered to host the picnic this year. Their backyard space has plenty of room for everybody and there is a swimming pool and MSU-customized basketball court as well. So bring your swimsuits, bring your picnic blankets and chairs and make it a fun time!

If you have any questions about this event, please contact Audrianna Sibiski of the SF Bay Area Spartans at audrianna.sibiski@gmail.com or (650) 207-2881.

We request that all guests register for the event by July 22. There is a nominal charge:

Incoming (freshmen, transfer, graduate) and current students – Free
17 years of age and younger – Free
Everyone else – $12

Go Green!

#GiveGreenDay November 28th

Michigan State University’s system-wide Day of Giving, #GiveGreenDay, will be held next Tuesday, November 28!

This is a day you can help us build upon the $30,000+ we have raised already to support MSU students from the Bay Area attending MSU. So, next Tuesday, please consider supporting the SF Bay Area Spartans Alumni Endowed Scholarship by contributing your tax-deductable donation directly to our fund! Go Green! Go White!

I ‘Spartan’ SF Shirts are Back!

You’ve seen them at The Brick Yard and at various events around the Bay Area (and possibly beyond!) – the I ‘Spartan’ SF shirts are back by popular demand! Shirts are available for purchase at any SF Bay Area Spartans event. We are offering crew neck and v-neck sizes for men and women in the dark green color we all know and love. Shirts are $35, payable by cash, Venmo or PayPal. Proceeds from the shirts support our scholarship fund that helps out Bay Area students who dream of spending time on the Banks of the Red Cedar. Get yours today!

I ‘Spartan’ SF T-Shirts are Back on Sale!

They’re back! Due to popular demand, we’re thrilled to offer another round of the Official San Francisco Spartans ‘I Spartan SF’ t-shirts from East Lansing’s own Underground Printing.

Sales end October 5th. Shirts will be shipped on October 16th so you can wear them when we pack The Brick Yard for the Michigan game on October 25th.

You can order them here.

The Forest Green shirts are offered in two athletic cut unisex styles: crew neck (size chart here) and v-neck (size chart here). Women should order one size *smaller* than they are used to – if you’re normally a small in women’s sizes, get an extra small in the unisex size.

All shirts are $29.95 each. Profits go to support our alumni club and the San Francisco Bay Area Endowment Fund. We are well on our way to our endowment goal and every contribution helps. Thank you for your support! If you’d like to donate directly to our fund, click here.

Happy New Year, Bay Area Spartans!

Please join us at Google’s San Francisco office on January 22, 6 – 9 pm for a great opportunity to network with fellow Michigan State alumni.

Hot and cold appetizers, wine, beer and sodas will be provided for all attendees. We will be pouring Pinot Noir, Chardonnay and Torrontés wine varietals courtesy of our good friends at Bravium Wines and Threshold Wine Company.

We will be selling raffle tickets at the event and holding a drawing to win unique MSU autographed merchandise signed by either Coach Dantonio, football star Kirk Cousins, or basketball star Draymond Green. All proceeds from raffle ticket sales benefit the MSU Alumni of SF Bay Area Scholarship Fund. We are 1/3rd of the way to our goal of raising $30,000 to endow our scholarship fund which will help students from the Bay Area attend MSU. Your support of this goal is appreciated.

We are also very excited to announce a special VIP guest at this event. You have seen him at athletic events, in parades, around campus on game day, in ESPN commercials, at weddings, birthday parties, alumni club events and promoting literacy to children in schools. He is loved everywhere and is the embodiment of what it means to be a Michigan State Spartan. He is Sparty! And he’s coming to San Francisco!

Fresh off a Rose Bowl victory and a whole lot of fun down in Pasadena, Sparty was anxious to enjoy just a little bit more time in the California sunshine and really wanted to come meet all the SF Bay Area Spartans! Sparty will be hanging out only during the first hour of the event to pose for photos and to meet everybody – so don’t be late or you’ll miss him!

Following Sparty’s departure, Janel Rutzen, Program Coordinator for the Association of Future Alumni will give a brief presentation on the history of our beloved mascot. Have you ever wondered how our beloved Sparty became the Michigan State University icon he is today? How he got started? MSU’s mascot first began to take form in 1955. Sparty in his current form is 23 years old but has had several looks throughout that time. In Janel’s presentation you will learn the origins of Sparty and the Sparty Mascot Program, and get a rare insider’s look at what it is like to portray Sparty, “The Gentle Giant.”

This promises to be a really fun night out with your fellow MSU alums, so get your tickets today! Check out our Eventbrite page to purchase tickets. We are looking forward to having you join us at this unique event.

Go Green!
